The History of Female Domination

There are many manuscripts and written accounts through the ages that clearly indicate the willingness of one partner in a relationship to become a submissive for purely romantic reasons.
One medieval example of female domination is the literary convention of courtly love, a requirement of which was for a knight to serve his Lady with the same obedience and loyalty that he showed his Liege Lord.
Many written accounts of this era detail Knights performing acts such as cross dressing and self flagellation in order to appease his Lady in “love service”.
There are also many accounts of prostitutes in most of the major European cities who specialized in catering to male submissives and masochists.
In a male dominated world it was all too easy for a submissive woman to find a strict male dominant, but some women still found ways to leave husbands who were “too soft”.

One of the most famous works of literature in this area is Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s Venus im Pelz (Venus in Furs, 1869), the main character Severin persuades his love interest, Wanda, to take him on as her male slave. Severin serves her faithfully and also allows Wanda to degrade him. The book has elements of both social and physical submission, and is the genesis of the term masochism coined by the 19th century psychiatrist Krafft-Ebing.

Relationships

In some relationships the submissive partner will only submit occasionally and with planned short term goals in mind, maybe for the duration of a party or a whole evening.
In other committed relationships partners strive for a continual power exchange among themselves with no definitive beginning or ending, involving love and servitude performed many different ways throughout the duration of the relationship.
Slave contracts may be engaged in which consent will be given once, covering a specified period of time. Other slave contracts entered into by consenting individuals may be in effect continuously, this type of relationship contract is considered a 24/7.
The limits of a slave contract can and do vary widely and often enter into other areas of BDSM.
Some partners opt to be submissive only as a “sex slave”, while others prefer more domestic service and identify as “service slaves”.
Some submissive partners will allow their Mistress complete latitude as to the demands that can be placed on them. Such a relationship is known as a total power exchange or “TPE”.
The Mistress/Slave contracts are usually only entered into by people who have played together for extended periods of time, thus getting to know one another’s limits before hand. The Mistress/Slave relationship can be one of the most difficult relationships in the BDSM world to maintain, requiring special skills and experience.

Safety Concerns

Out of the many risks inherant in a Mistress/Slave relationship the most prolific involve mental health. Because the Mistress/Slave relationship is a mostly mental activity great care should be taken to respect one anothers limits, which is why extended contracts are usually only entered into by people who have played together for shorter periods for quite some time often years.
Some examples of dangerous relationships are as follows:
1. Physically or mentally abusive dominant partner
2. Self-hating subs
3. Dominant partners who violate the trust relationship by attempting to isolate the sub from society or monetarily exploit the sub
4. Unstable dominant partners or subs who, through act or threat of calling public attention to the other’s private life and their relationship, can cause financial or personal hardship
5. Emotionally unstable or manipulative subs or dominant partners seeking more from the relationship than the other, as a human being, can give This can include so-called mind games, emotional vampirism and any other forms of emotional manipulation or abuse present in any other relationship.
The extra factor is that Mistress/Slave relationships are already predicated upon a delicate shift of power, and so rely more than usual on participants being able to handle that well.

Mistress Slave Relationship Styles

The number of partners in a Mistress/Slave relationship can vary greatly with one Mistress having several Slaves who in turn may dominate others. Some Slaves may sometimes have multiple Mistresses.
Romantic love does not always take a prominent role in Mistress/Slave relationships, some partners may be very much in love or have no romantic relationship at all.
The variations in the Mistress/Slave relationship is virtually limitless and the activities involved in them take many forms. These may include some or all of the following examples:
1. domestic servitude or consensual slavery
2. enforced chastity of the submissive
3. erotic humiliation
4. sexual slavery
5. verbal humiliation
6. fetishes, such as foot/shoe/boot worship, uniforms, smoking, latex, heavy rubber, among others are activities considered part of BDSM
7. dehumanization (pony or animal play) or objectification (forniphilia, becoming an ‘inanimate object’ such as a foot stool)
8. cross-dressing
9. whipping
10. Corporal Punishment
11. Trampling
12. Human Furniture
13. Human Toilet – Golden showers
14. Feminization
15. Cuckold
16. Bondage
17. Public Humilation

Any one of the above examples may be combined with other forms of BDSM.
The classic example of a Mistress/Slave relationship is the “sissyboy” where an Adult male will perform stereotypical female chores such as house cleaning or serving his Mistress tea.
Some Mistress/Slave relationships are sexual while others are more chaste. Fantasy roleplay can also be a large part of the relationship where partners take on the cl;assic Mistress/Slave roles or authority figure roles such as “teacher/student”, or “parent/child”. A more frequent Mistress/Slave roleplay situation is Animal play where one partner takes on the role of caretaker/owner and the other takes the part of a pet or animal.
